Robert Macomber's Honor series of naval fiction follows the life and career of Peter Wake in the U.S. Navy during the tumultuous years from 1863 to 1901. An Affair of Honor is the fifth in the series. The previous novels are At the Edge of Honor (winner of the Patrick D. Smith Literary Award as Best Historical Novel of Florida), Point of Honor (winner of the John Esten Cook Literary Award for Best Work in Southern Fiction), Honorable Mention, and A Dishonorable Few. Peter Wake, in 1873, is executive officer of a ship on patrol in the West Indies. He runs afoul of the Royal Navy in Antigua, and then he's sent to Europe, where he gets embroiled in the Spanish Civil War, and then to North Africa. The charms of the wife of a French diplomat engage Wake in an affair of honor. "An Affair of Honor is a fine mix of drama and authenticity, based on Macomber's own trips to the locations he writes about." Ft. Myers News-Press
