I exist to protect her.

My beast lives to ravage her.

Razor-sharp claws shred the soft, supple skin. Hot blood spills, and her pulse fades behind my temples. She will always be in harm's way with me in the picture. However, my plan to leave my clan behind backfires when the bayou becomes a killing field, and the predator may be one of our own.

I peel away the corners of the dirty gauze, revealing bruised, puckered flesh. I haven't laid eyes on Kingston since that bloody day on the water, but I can feel him. He's nearby, watching and guarding. He's left with no choice when a rogue shifter has made the swamp his own, sadistic amusement park.
