[Infected Zone 01] • Survivors of New York

Since the outbreak, the world has been colored in black and white for Ben Hassinger. The enemy that needed to be destroyed were the mindless flesh-eating living dead, better known as Zombies. After the loss of his family, Ben set out into one of the Infected Zones to obliterate as many of the Zombie, or Infected as the government called them, as possible. He soon had a group of other survivors joining his cause and willing to follow him as they not only terminate the Infected, but also rescue others that had become trapped in the Infected Zone.

Nine months ago, their situation changed when they were recruited by what was left of the Army after Ben and his team’s reputation spread. They were brought on to be one of the Search and Rescue Specialist squads. They quickly became one of the most successful teams the Army Rangers had in operation, thus it was no surprise when they got selected for a high-risk rescue mission. A high ranking government official’s plane crashed into a skyscraper in the quarantined, on-entry city of New York. Ben is further shaken as he is informed that he won’t be the one leading his team on this mission. His squad will be led by Captain Perret.

Shades of gray start to appear in the team’s mission when they don’t find any survivors at the crash site and Ben catches Captain Perret grabbing documents from the dead men inside of the plane. Ben probably would have put the incident behind him, but the helicopter that they rode in on crashes after Infected find their way onto the roof. Ben couldn’t be sure, but he swears he sees intelligence in the eyes of one of the Infected.

Without a ride home, and no way to contact anyone for help, the group decides to try walking out of the city through the sewer system. They are surprised to not only run into survivors, but an underground city filled with nearly two hundred survivors. Ben sees the mission parameters change, but the Captain doesn’t. Their differences of views come to a head when Infected attack the underground city forcing Ben to take action by having Captain Perret taken into custody. He knows it’s a mutinous act, but he has decided that saving the lives of those in the underground city are more important.

Using the resources that the survivors have been able to scavenge together, they come up with a plan to call in the cavalry. But will it be in time? And if they do get out alive, what’s going to happen to the team? Ben can’t think that far in advance his only though is to get everyone out.
