Mexico was the only country in North America that the boys visited aside from the USA and Canada with their Up All Night Tour. They planned two concerts during the World Tour 2013 – performing at Foro Sol in Mexico City on 8 and 9 June. It was to be just over a year since they had last performed there, as their dates for the Up All Night Tour had been 5 and 6 June 2012.
Shortly before the boys visited Mexico for the first time, Niall tweeted fans to say, ‘Our first time in south america! Mexico here we come! Cannot wait, ive heard audiences down there are crazy! #1DinMexico #vivamexico’.
In a tweet Niall wrote on 18 June 2012, he said, ‘Been to so many countries now! Sweden, germany, france, italy, holland, australia, newzealand, mexico, US, canada, loving this journey, its been sick’. Niall had always wanted to travel to thank fans in each country for supporting them and making their dreams come true.
For Mexico’s Bring Me to 1D event, fans had to complete a series of challenges. The winner was Daniela; the10 runners-up each won two tickets to the sold out World Tour.
The boys love visiting Mexico, with Zayn admitting during an interview with HOY, ‘We were just kinda blown away by the response that we get from our fans, and yet again you know, our fans in Mexico kind of delivered and it’s been amazing, it’s been really cool. The only word I could really use to describe Mexican fans is passionate.’
Louis added ‘loud’, as he thinks that sums up Mexican fans. All the boys are grateful for the support from Mexican fans, especially because a lot of fans don’t speak English.
Mexican fans joined together to do a flash mob in April 2012. If you want to see it, go to YouTube and search for ‘One Direction Chihuahua, Mexico Flash Mob.’ They are currently planning their choreography for their next one, so Mexican fans who want to be involved should join the One Direction Chihuahua page on Facebook. Alternatively you could join the main One Direction Mexico page, which has over 70,000 fans.
