Coming in spring 2012 – Nightmare Scenario One

‘In late November 2012 a major geophysical event occurred in the eastern Atlantic, a few hundred miles off the coast of North Africa. It was reported by news outlets as having been caused by a seismic disturbance near the island of Mordra, which in company with the very stormy seas that existed at the time, precipitated the formation of a uniquely large rogue wave that caused considerable havoc in nearby transatlantic shipping lanes. The U.S. Government made no attempt to cover up the fact something unusual had happened that night, but then how could they, as half the seismometers in the world registered it, and fifteen ships of various sizes were reported during it. What they did not acknowledge however, was that the following day as a result of these events a new unit was formed deep inside the offices of an otherwise inconsequential Washington think-tank. This unit, called N.S.2., took its name from the initials of the phrase ‘nightmare scenario,’ and its number from the fact it was designed to prevent any repetition of the first nightmare scenario that occurred that night in late November. This is the story of how that first nightmare scenario came about, how dreadful its impact almost was, and why everything possible most be done to ensure it never happens again.’
