Doug Lowe has been writing computer programming books since the guys who invented Java were in high school. He’s written books on COBOL, FORTRAN, Visual Basic, IBM mainframe computers, midrange systems, PCs, web programming, and probably a few he’s long since forgotten about. He’s the author of more than 30 For Dummies books, including Networking For Dummies, 11th Edition; Networking All-In-One For Dummies, 5th Edition; PowerPoint 2016 For Dummies; and Electronics All-In-One For Dummies, 2nd Edition (all published by Wiley). He lives in that sunny all-American city Fresno, California, where the motto is “Please, Let It Rain!”
To my beautiful wife, Kristen Gearhart.
I’d like to thank everyone at Wiley who was involved in the creation of this book, starting with project editor Elizabeth Kuball, who did a great job of managing all the editorial work required to put this book together in spite of the fact that the book was delayed by the long development cycle of Java 9. I’d also like to thank John Mueller for his excellent and thorough technical review.
