The China Tee Club is an oasis of an establishment for lunch or afternoon tea after a hard few hours of shopping in Central. The Pedder Building itself is one of the few buildings of 1930s Hong Kong remaining. Inside, the sweeping ceiling fans and traditional Malaysian interior provides a calm colonial feel. Technically, this is a members-based club. But daily memberships for visitors are available for a small fee (phone ahead). The lunch menu is Southeast Asian (with the Hainan chicken rice a firm favourite) and Western (with a touch of Eastern influence). At tea time, English tea sets are served as well as steamed Chinese dumplings and other popular dim sum dishes in bamboo baskets. If you are on your own, get a table by the window, which offers an addictive view over the bustle of Peddar Street.
