The Luxe Manor

If you are eager to stay on the Kowloon side of Hong Kong, then the only real boutique hotel option is The Luxe Manor. But what an option it is! Enter the lobby and you are confronted by a world inspired by the surrealists (copper and gold mosaic floor, waterfall, crystal lighting), providing a starkly contrasting mood to the outside Kowloon streets. Look carefully, however, and you will find the odd oriental influences reminding you of the hotel’s local roots. Many of the art pieces placed throughout the hotel were collected by the owner Marcus Lee on his travels. Humour, quirkiness and stylishness work in tandem in this most designer of boutique hotels. Containing 159 rooms, the standard rooms continue with the surrealist theme but each has their own distinct design characteristics. The six suites on the 12th floor, however, take you further into the realm of fantasy. As soon as you step out of the lift, you are confronted by the richness of the red wallpaper, reminding one of Wong Kar Wai’s movie In the Mood for Love. Each suite is a world of its own—the Safari Suite is modelled in the form of a tent in Morocco, with starlight shining from the ceiling, and is often the favourite of both hotel staff and guests. The Luxe Manor is also blessed with an excellent Italian restaurant (Aspasia) and very stylish lounge bar (Dada) which has regular clientele for live jazz during Thursday–Sunday. And as part of the overall love for art and the good life, the hotel has an art and wine-tasting appreciation club (Club Miniaci) which is open to guests. Quite simply, this is a hotel experience that you won’t find elsewhere in Hong Kong.
