GOD LISTENS TO YOUR HEARTS

You understand my thought afar off.

You comprehend my path and my lying down,

And are acquainted with all my ways.

For there is not a word on my tongue,

But behold, O LORD, You know it altogether.

PSALM 139:2–4

Ponder the wondrous truth of the psalmist’s words, and find comfort in them!

God is your Creator, your Abba Father, your Judge, your King. As such, He knows the outward things that people can know—your strengths, abilities, and accomplishments. But He also knows the inward things—your desires, hopes, and dreams. He is aware of how you feel, and He knows your unspoken needs and hidden hurts. He knows what thrills your soul and what breaks your heart. He who knit you together in your mother’s womb knows you completely, and He pays attention to every detail of your life. God knows everything about you. He knows your past, your present, and, yes, your future. He hears your spoken words as well as the unspoken words of your heart, and still He loves you!

In response to this incomprehensible, heaven-sent love, may we believers love the Lord with an urgency, a fervor, a zealous desire to both know Him better and glorify Him more fully. May we respond with a life characterized by prayer, by continual communication with our heavenly Father. Truly knowing the Lord comes only by spending time with Him in prayer (that means listening for His voice as well as speaking to Him) and delving deeper into His Word. And it is easier and wiser to entrust your heart to Someone you know well and trust completely.
