1 Samuel 16:1–12
God spoke to Samuel again: “Bring oil to Bethlehem. There you’ll anoint Jesse’s son as the new king.”
At Bethlehem, Samuel offered God a sacrifice. Jesse and his seven sons were there. Samuel thought, “I’ll anoint one of these young men.” But God said, “They are good looking, but I don’t want them. People only see what others look like. But I look at their heart.”
“Do you have another son?” asked Samuel.
“My youngest son, David, is with the sheep.”
Jesse sent for David. When the boy arrived God said, “Anoint him. This is the one.”
Questions: Where did Jesse and his sons live? Humans see what others look like. What does God see?
