Day 136

The Faithful Prophet of God

1 Kings 18:30–39

Elijah built an altar of twelve stones. Each stone represented one of Israel’s tribes. The ox and firewood were placed on top. He dug a ditch around the altar. Three times Elijah ordered water poured over the altar. Everything was soaking wet and the ditch was filled up.

Elijah prayed: O God of Abraham, Isaac, and Israel, show them that you are Israel’s God. Turn their hearts back to you.” Suddenly, fire came out of the sky and burned up the offering.

When the people saw this, they fell down shouting, “The Lord is God!”

Questions: What did the twelve stones of Elijah’s altar represent? Who did Elijah pray to?
