Day 146

The Lepers and the Empty Camp

2 Kings 6:24–7:11

Syria surrounded the city of Samaria and the people were starving. Elisha encouraged the king not to give up. “Tomorrow there will be plenty of cheap food in Samaria,” he said.

A nobleman scoffed, “Only if food rains from heaven.”

“You’ll see it with your eyes, but you won’t eat any.”

That night the Lord worked. He caused the Syrians to hear the sound of a huge army. They all ran from their camp and left everything behind. Four lepers found the camp empty and unguarded. They ran to Samaria with the good news.

Questions: Why were the people starving? What did the Lord do to make the Syrians leave their camp?
