2 Chronicles 32:1–23
Hezekiah followed God with his whole heart. King Sennacherib’s Assyrian army invaded Judah, but Hezekiah shut off Judah’s water supply. “Why should Assyria find water?” he reasoned.
They strengthened Jerusalem’s wall. Many new weapons were made for the fight. Then Hezekiah called the people together. “Be strong,” he said. “Don’t be afraid of Sennacherib or his horde. There is one with us who is greater than those with him. Sennacherib has only human strength. But the Lord is here to help us and fight our battles.”
Messengers came from Assyria. They shouted to the people inside Jerusalem. They said terrible things about God, trying to shake their faith. Because of this, Hezekiah and Isaiah prayed. The Lord sent an angel into the Assyrian camp. This angel killed the leading warriors there. Sennacherib had to return to Assyria in disgrace. There his sons murdered him.
So the Lord saved Jerusalem from her enemies and gave them rest. Hezekiah became famous in all the nations.
Questions: Who was with Jerusalem and not with Assyria? Why were the messengers saying terrible things about God?
