Day 215

The Praise of Simeon

Luke 2:21–35

An old man named Simeon stood in the temple at Jerusalem. In his arms was the baby Jesus. Simeon praised God:

Thank you, Lord, for letting me leave this life in peace.

I’ve finally seen your salvation for all people.

He’s a light so the Gentiles can see you;

And he’s the glory of your people, Israel.

Mary and Joseph had brought Jesus to the temple. The law said they should promise him to God. The Spirit told Simeon to be there, too.

“Many in Israel will rise and fall because of him,” Simeon told Jesus’ parents.

Questions: What did Simeon say about Jesus? Why did Mary and Joseph bring Jesus to the temple?
