Day 219

In His Father’s House

Luke 2:40–52

Jesus grew and became strong. He was full of wisdom and God preferred him.

When Jesus was twelve years old, his family went to Jerusalem for the Passover. Afterward, they started home, but the boy Jesus stayed behind in Jerusalem. When they couldn’t find him, they returned to Jerusalem. There they searched for Jesus.

After three days, they found him in the temple. The teachers were amazed at his understanding and answers. When his parents saw him, they were surprised. His mother said, “Child, why have you treated us like this? Your father and I have been looking for you. We’ve been worried sick.”

“Why were you searching for me?” Jesus asked her. “Didn’t you know that I would be in my Father’s house?” But they didn’t understand his meaning.

Then Jesus went down with them from Jerusalem. They retuned to Nazareth and he obeyed them. His mother always remembered the things he did and said.

Jesus grew in wisdom and in years. He was preferred by God and the people.

Questions: Why did Jesus and his family go to Jerusalem? What was Jesus doing when they found him?
