Matthew 5:1–9
Jesus saw the huge crowds on the mountain. His disciples, too, came, and he taught them:
The poor in spirit are blessed because theirs is the kingdom of heaven.
The meek are blessed because they’ll inherit the earth.
People who are hungry to do right are blessed because they’ll be filled.
People who have mercy are blessed because they’ll be given mercy.
The pure in heart are blessed because they’ll see God.
Peacemakers are blessed because they’ll be called children of God.
