Matthew 14:13–18
Jesus heard John the Baptist had been killed. So he retreated in a boat to a secluded place. The people followed on foot around the Sea of Galilee. So when Jesus came ashore, he saw huge crowds waiting. There he cared for them.
“It’s late,” said the disciples. “Send them away for food.”
“They don’t need to leave,” said Jesus. “You give them food.”
“All we have is five loaves and two fish.”
Taking these, Jesus looked up to heaven. He blessed and broke the loaves. Then everyone ate their fill. They filled twelve baskets with leftovers.
Questions: Why did the disciples want to send the people away? What did Jesus want the disciples to do?
