Day 251

Jesus Walks on the Sea

Matthew 14:22–36

After feeding the crowds, Jesus sent the disciples back to the boat. He went up the mountain alone to pray. By evening, the boat was far from land. The disciples struggled to sail against high waves and strong winds. At dawn, Jesus came to them walking on the sea.

“It’s a ghost!” they cried out in fear.

“Take heart, it is I,” Jesus said. “Don’t be afraid.”

Peter answered, “Lord, command me to walk on the water.”

He said, “Come.”

So Peter started walking on the water toward Jesus. But when Peter felt the wind, he began sink. Peter cried out, “Lord, save me!”

Instantly, Jesus reached and caught him. “You have so little faith,” Jesus said. “Why did you doubt?” Back in the boat, the wind stopped.

“Truly you are the Son of God,” they said. And the disciples worshiped him.

When the boat came to land, the sick were brought to Jesus. “Just let us touch the edge of your cloak,” the people begged. All those who touched it were healed.

Questions: What did the disciples think when Jesus came walking on the sea? Why did Peter begin to sink?
