Matthew 17:14–21
Jesus and the three disciples came down the mountain to the crowd. A man knelt down in front of Jesus. “Lord, have mercy on my son. An evil spirit controls him; he suffers terribly. Sometimes he falls into the fire. Other times he falls into the water. I brought him to your disciples, but they couldn’t cure him.”
Jesus said, “You people have no faith. You’re so corrupt. How much longer do I have to put up with you? Bring the boy to me.” Jesus rebuked the demon and it came out. The boy was cured instantly.
The disciples took him aside and asked, “Why couldn’t we do that?”
“Because you have so little faith. You could do so much with just a tiny bit of faith. Faith the size of a mustard seed can move a mountain into the sea. With faith, nothing would be impossible for you.”
They were all living in Galilee. There Jesus told them, “I am going to be trapped and sold to men in Jerusalem. They will kill me. Three days later, I’ll return from death.” These words upset and worried the disciples.
Questions: Why couldn’t the disciples cure the boy? Why were the disciples worried about Jesus?
