Part One
John 9:1–9
As Jesus walked in Jerusalem, he saw a blind man. This man had been born blind. His disciples asked this question: “Teacher, whose fault was it that he is blind? Did his parents sin? Was it his sin that caused this?”
“He was born blind for a reason,” Jesus answered. “This has nothing to do with anyone’s sin. God wants to work in him. We must do God’s work while it is day. Night is coming when no one can work. As long as I’m in the world, I’m the light of the world.”
Then Jesus spit on the ground. He made mud with his spit and spread it on the man’s eyes. “Go wash your eyes in the Siloam pool,” Jesus told him.
The blind man went to the pool with mud on his eyes. He washed, and for the first time in his life, he could see. His neighbors had always seen him begging. “Isn’t this the man who used to sit and beg?” they asked.
“It’s the same man,” some said.
“No,” others said. “This man just looks like him.”
He told them, “I’m the same man.”
Questions: What was the reason the man was blind? When Jesus was in the world, what was he?
