Day 262

Mud on a Blind Man’s Eyes

Part Two
John 9:10–25

The once-blind beggar tried to explain why he could see: “Jesus spread the mud on my eyes and said ‘Wash at Siloam Pool.’ ”

Because it was the Sabbath, they brought the man to the Pharisees. “This man isn’t from God,” some Pharisees said.

“But how could a sinner do this miracle?” others asked. The Pharisees couldn’t agree. So they asked the blind beggar, “What do you think? He gave you your sight.”

“He’s a prophet.”

The Pharisees didn’t believe him. “He was never blind,” they said. So they asked his parents.

“This is our son,” they said. “He was born blind. We don’t know why he can now see. He’s a grown man. Ask him.” So the Pharisees called the man for the second time.

“You should only praise God that you can see,” they said. “Jesus made mud on the Sabbath. He’s a sinner, not a miracle worker.”

“I don’t know if he’s a sinner,” the man answered. “I do know that once I was blind. Now I see.”

Questions: Why did they bring the man to the Pharisees? Why did the Pharisees say that Jesus was a sinner?
