Day 269

Jesus Is the Resurrection

Part Three
John 11:38–53

Lazarus’ tomb was covered by a boulder. “Remove it,” he said.

“Lord,” complained Martha, “the body’s begun to stink.”

“Martha, I told you to believe and you’d see God’s glory. Thank you, Father. You’ve heard me.” Jesus said this so the people would believe in him. He spoke loudly: “Lazarus, come out.”

Many Jews saw Lazarus come forth and believed. Others told the Pharisees who worried, “Soon everyone will believe in him.” So they plotted to kill Jesus.

Questions: Why didn’t Martha want to take the stone from Lazarus’s tomb? Why did the Pharisees plot to kill Jesus?
