Day 292

The Arrest of Jesus Christ

Matthew 26:47–56

Judas Iscariot arrived at Gethsemane. With him was a large crowd with swords and clubs. They were sent by the leading priests. “The one I kiss is Jesus,” Judas told them. “Arrest him.”

Judas quickly walked to Jesus. “Hello, Teacher!” he said, and then he kissed him.

“Friend,” said Jesus, “do what you came to do.” Then he spoke to the crowd: “You’ve come to arrest me with swords and clubs. Am I a bandit? I taught you everyday in the temple. You didn’t arrest me there.” All the disciples ran from the garden, and Jesus was led away.

Questions: How did the crowd know who Jesus was? What name did Jesus call Judas?
