Matthew 28:1–7
The sun was rising Sunday morning, the third day since Jesus’ death. Mary from Bethany and Mary Magdalene came to his tomb. Suddenly, an earthquake rumbled. An angel had rolled away the stone. He sat by the open tomb, flashing like lightning. The guards fell down, stunned with fear.
The angel spoke: “Don’t be afraid, women. I know you’re looking for Jesus. He isn’t here. He’s left death behind, just as he said he would. Here, look where he lay. Quickly, go tell his disciples this: Jesus is waiting for them in Galilee. Meet him there.”
Questions: What happened when the angel moved the stone away from Jesus’ tomb? Where did the angel say Jesus was waiting?
