Luke 24:28–37
The two disciples didn’t recognize Jesus. In Emmaus, they sat down to eat together. Jesus took the bread, blessed it, and broke it. When he gave it to them, they saw who he was. But Jesus had vanished.
They rushed back to Jerusalem and told the disciples: “Our hearts were burning within when he spoke to us on the road.”
And they were told: “Jesus has appeared to Peter, too!” Just then they were startled and terrified. Jesus himself stood among them.
“Peace be with you,” he said. But they thought they were seeing a ghost.
