Day 306

Jesus Serves Breakfast on the Seashore

John 21:1–12

Seven of Jesus’ disciples, including Peter, agreed to go fishing in the Sea of Tiberias. Fishing all night, they caught nothing.

At daybreak, Jesus stood on the beach. The disciples didn’t know it was Jesus.

“Children,” he called, “you have no fish, do you?”

“No,” they replied.

“Cast your net on the right side of the boat. There you’ll find some.” So the disciples cast the net. They weren’t able to haul it into the boat. It was full to bursting with fish.

John exclaimed to Peter, “It’s the Lord!” When Peter heard this, he jumped overboard into the sea. The other disciples rowed ashore dragging the net full of fish. They weren’t far from shore, so Peter swam to the beach. There they found a fire with fish and bread cooking on it.

“Bring some more fish,” said Jesus. They dragged the net ashore. It was full of 153 big fish, but the net wasn’t torn. “Come and have breakfast,” invited Jesus.

Questions: How did the disciples know where to catch fish? What did Jesus offer the disciples when they came ashore?
