Day 308

Jesus Is Taken into Heaven

Acts 1:3–11

Jesus Christ proved that he was alive many times. For forty days, he stayed with the disciples, speaking about God’s kingdom. He ordered them not to leave Jerusalem. Rather, they were to wait there for the Father’s promise. “I mentioned this to you before,” he said. “John baptized with water. But in a few days, you’ll be baptized with the Holy Spirit.”

“Lord,” they asked, “is now the time you’ll bring the kingdom to Israel?” They were gathered together on the Mount of Olives.

“You can’t know the times the Father has set for these things. But you will receive power. The Holy Spirit will come upon you like clothing. Then you’ll speak for me starting in Jerusalem. Then in Judea, Samaria, and to the ends of the earth.”

After Jesus said this, he was lifted up as they watched. Then a cloud took him out of sight. While he was going, the disciples gazed toward heaven. Two men wearing white clothes stood with them. “Men from Galilee, why are you standing there looking up? This Jesus has been taken from you into heaven. But he’ll come back in the same way as you saw him go.”

Questions: With what would the disciples be baptized? How will Jesus come back?
