Acts 4:5–21
The next day, Peter and John stood in front of the high priest and other leaders. “In whose name did you do this work?” they were asked.
Peter was filled with the Holy Spirit. “Leaders of the people,” he said, “do you want to know why this man is standing here in good health? It is by the name of Jesus Christ of Nazareth—the man you crucified, and God brought back from death. Salvation is only found in him. No other name has been given by which we must be saved.”
The leaders saw Peter and John’s boldness. They saw that they were common, uneducated men. Also, they knew Peter and John were companions of Jesus. The priests and leaders were amazed.
“What should we do with them?” they asked each other. “Everyone in Jerusalem has heard of this miracle. We can’t say it didn’t happen.” So they ordered the disciples, “Never speak again in the name of Jesus.”
“We can’t keep from speaking of what we’ve seen and heard,” they answered. And the people praised God for what had happened.
Questions: What did Peter say was special about Jesus’ name? Peter and John were common men and not educated. What was special about them?
