Day 352

Paul Speaks to Felix

Part Two
Acts 24:17–26

Paul continued telling his story to Governor Felix:

“I came to Jerusalem bringing gifts for the poor. I simply wanted to offer sacrifices. While I did this, they found me in the temple, and some Jews from Asia were there. They’re the ones who should be here today. They may have something against me. These men here should tell you another story. I was brought to their council. There I mentioned that God would bring us back from death. Maybe that’s their problem.”

Felix knew quite a bit about the Christian way. “The Roman captain must come here,” he said. “Then I’ll decide this matter.” Guarded by soldiers, Paul had the freedom to see his friends.

A few days later, Felix sent for him. The apostle explained the gospel to the governor and his wife. They heard about God’s judgment. Self-control was a part of Paul’s message to them. These and other things frightened Felix. “Go away for now,” he told Paul. “I’ll send for you again when I can.” What he really wanted was payment to set Paul free. The apostle waited there for two years.

Questions: Paul explained the gospel to Felix. What did he talk about? What did Felix want to trade for Paul’s freedom?
