Day 62

A Snake Made of Brass

Numbers 21:5–9

Once, in the desert, Israel complained against God and Moses. “Why did you bring us from Egypt to die?” they moaned. “We’ve no water, and we’re sick of eating manna.”

God became angry and he sent poisonous snakes into the camp. They bit many people who then died. Israel came to Moses and said, “We’ve sinned.”

So God told Moses to make a snake out of brass. “Hang it on a pole,” God said. “Whoever looks at it will not die.”’

Moses did this. People bitten by a snake looked at the brass serpent and lived.

Questions: Why did God send the poisonous snakes? What did God tell Moses to do?
