Jonah’s Prayer
1 Jonah prayed to the LORD his God from the belly of the fish: j
2 I called to the LORD in my distress, k
and he answered me.
I cried out for help from deep inside C Sheol; l
you heard my voice. m
3 You threw me into the depths, n
into the heart of the seas, o
and the current D overcame me.
All your breakers and your billows swept over me. p
4 But I said, “I have been banished q
from your sight, r
yet I will look once more E
toward your holy temple. s
5 The water engulfed me up to the neck; F,t
the watery depths overcame me;
seaweed was wrapped around my head. u
6 I sank to the foundations of the mountains, v
the earth’s gates shut behind me forever! w
Then you raised my life x from the Pit, LORD my God! y
7 As my life was fading away, z
I remembered the LORD, a
and my prayer came to you, b
to your holy temple. c
8 Those who cherish worthless idols d
abandon their faithful love, e
9 but as for me, I will sacrifice f to you
with a voice of thanksgiving. g
I will fulfill h what I have vowed.
Salvation G belongs to the LORD.” i
10 Then the LORD commanded the fish, j and it vomited Jonah onto dry land.
