SMART SHOPPING: Jarred Salsa
Using jarred salsa in our stuffed peppers added complex vegetal flavor, without extra work, and helped to bind the filling; because it is cooked, it is more saucy and thicker than homemade salsa. We recently tested a number of jarred salsas, looking for a brand that delivered bold spice and real heat, balanced by sweet tomato flavor and bright acidity. In the end, Chi-Chi’s Medium Thick and Chunky Salsa came out on top. Tasters preferred this salsa for its bright, vibrant flavor, which they found to be “spicy, fresh, and tomatoey.”
