Canyonlands Natural History Association (CNHA) was established in 1967 as a not-for-profit organization to assist the scientific, educational, and visitor service efforts of the National Park Service (NPS), the Bureau of Land Management (BLM), and US Forest Service (USFS).
CNHA’s goals include enhancing each visitor’s understanding and appreciation of public lands by providing a thorough selection of quality educational materials for sale in its bookstore outlets. A portion of CNHA’s proceeds, including profit from this publication, are returned directly to our public land partners to fund their educational, research, and scientific programs. Bookstore sales support the agencies’ programs in various ways, including free publications, outdoor education programs for local school districts, equipment and supplies for ranger/naturalists, exhibits, and funds for research. Since our inception in 1967, CNHA has donated over 8 million dollars to our public land partners.
CNHA established the Discovery Pool in 2006 to provide our federal partners with financial support for eligible scientific studies conducted within their administrative boundaries.
The goals for use of the Discovery Pool grants are:
People protect that which they understand. With visitor use demands escalating and agency funding declining, CNHA’s role in assisting in the agencies’ educational efforts will continue to expand. Those wishing to support CNHA and our mission are invited to join the association’s membership program. (Membership dues and other contributions are tax deductible to the extent provided by law.)
