Difficulty level: Medium
You need:
2 looms • hook • 2 c-clips • string or extra black bands for the chain • 85 black rubber bands
1. Set up two looms, side by side, with the pegs square and the arrow pointing away from you.
2. In the far left column, start at the peg closest to you and lay out a line of nine black bands.
3. Start at the second peg in the far left column and loop two bands to the right.
4. Starting at the peg where you ended your last band, lay out three bands moving up and to the right.
5. Lay out the rest of the eye patch outline: from the peg where you ended your last diagonal band, lay out a line of two bands in the far right column, then lay out three diagonal bands, moving up and to the left. From the last peg of your diagonal bands, lay out a line of two bands to finish your eye patch outline.
6. Start filling in your eye patch shape with bands. Attach a band each around the second and third pegs in the second row, and connect them to the next peg above. Starting on the third peg in the far left column, lay out a line of three bands going across from left to right.
7. Repeat this pattern for the rest of the eye patch shape, first laying out vertical bands on all the inside pegs to connect them to the next row above, then laying out horizontal lines starting at the far left and moving from left to right until you reach the edge of the eye patch shape on the right.
8. Attach a band around the tenth peg in the far left column, and connect it to the peg above.
9. Loop your bands back to where they started, starting on the tenth peg in the left column. Hook the band just below the top band (the last one you laid down) and pull it up and off the peg, looping it back to the peg where it started. Loop the rest of the bands on the peg this way, move to the next peg to the right, and loop in the same way. Continue looping your pattern, looping all of the pegs in a row from left to right, then moving down to the next row and looping that in the same way until you reach the end of the loom. Secure the final loose loops with a c-clip.
10. Use string or loop two chains of black bands to create the band for your eye patch. Tie one of the chains around the loops you secured with the c-clip and remove the c-clip. Tie the other end to the loop at the other end of the eye patch. You can connect these two chains with a c-clip.
