Octopus

images

Like nothing you have ever seen, this amazing octopus blows other rubber band projects out of the water! This purple sea creature and his creepy, crawly tentacles are actually super simple to put together! Gather lots of rubber bands in colors fit for a deep sea–diving cephalopod and get working on this crazy creation. (Warning: we cannot guarantee this octopus will actually swim!)

Difficulty level: Easy

You need:

1 loom • 1 mini-loom • hook • 9 c-clips • 2 googly eyes • about 400 rubber bands (colors shown: pink, purple, and metallic purple)

1. Loop a band in a figure eight on the mini-loom.

2. Loop two more bands on top of the first. Do not twist them. Alternate your colors as you go.

3. Use your plastic hook to pull the bottom band on the mini-loom up and over the other two, and drop the loop in the middle gap of the mini-loom.

4. Stack another band on top of the mini-loom. Hook the bottom band, pull it over the other two, and drop the loop in the middle gap of the mini-loom.

5. Continue adding and looping bands this way to make a chain. When your chain gets long enough after a few bands, pull it through the side of the mini-loom with the slit so that it does not go down the tube of the mini-loom.

6. When your chain is about six inches long, hook the two last loops off the loom and secure them with a c-clip. Loop the other end through a single band and secure it with a c-clip.

7. Make another chain on the mini-loom the same length as the first. Remove it from the loom and secure it with a c-clip. Then slide it onto the single band with the first.

8. Repeat until you have made eight chains, sliding each onto the single band.

9. Loop a band around the bundle of chains, and slide it to the middle.

10. Add some glue and googly eyes to finish the face!
