Manipura magic

serves 1; makes 500 ml (17 fl oz/2 cups)

Loaded with antioxidants and vitamin C, this golden orange juice is named after the ‘manipura’ chakra, because of its vibrant yellow colour. Chakras are energy junctions in the ‘subtle body’ (non-physical body), where the energy channels meet. There are seven main chakras. Situated behind the navel, the manipura chakra is said to be the centre of vitality, clarity, self-confidence and wisdom.

2.5 cm (1 inch) knob of fresh turmeric, peeled and chopped

50 g (1¾ oz/1 cup) chopped carrot

225 g (8 oz/1 cup) chopped, peeled orange

120 g (4¼ oz/1 cup) chopped apple

• Pass the ingredients through a cold-press juicer, popping the turmeric in first, then alternating between the carrot and the orange when putting them through the juicer shoot. Finish with the apple, to flush out as much of the turmeric colouring as possible, for easier cleaning.
