ABOUT THE AUTHORS
JAMES LINCOLN COLLIER is the author of a number of books both for adults and for young people, including the social history The Rise of Selfishness in America. He is also noted for his biographies and historical studies in the field of jazz. Together with his brother, Christopher Collier, he has written a series of award-winning historical novels for children widely used in schools, including the Newbery Honor classic, My Brother Sam Is Dead. A graduate of Hamilton College, he lives with his wife in New York City.
CHRISTOPHER COLLIER grew up in Fairfield County, Connecticut and attended public schools there. He graduated from Clark University in Worcester, Massachusetts and earned M.A. and Ph.D. degrees at Columbia University in New York City. After service in the Army and teaching in secondary schools for several years, Mr. Collier began teaching college in 1961. He is now Professor of History at the University of Connecticut and Connecticut State Historian. Mr. Collier has published many scholarly and popular books and articles about Connecticut and American history. With his brother, James, he is the author of nine historical novels for young adults, the best known of which is My Brother Sam Is Dead. He lives with his wife Bonnie, a librarian, in Orange, Connecticut.
