DECEMBER 1979

I’m watching Hud with Paul Newman and Patricia Neal and Melvyn Douglas. The dialogue is great. The father is dying. Hud is trying to hit on the housekeeper. The housekeeper is trying to resist him.

HUD: You don’t go shootin’ all the dogs because one of them got fleas.

And:

THE HOUSEKEEPER: I was married to Ed for eight years and all he was good for was to scratch my back when I couldn’t reach it.

HUD: You still got that itch?

THE HOUSEKEEPER: Every now and then.

HUD: Well, you let me know when it hits you again and I’ll see what I can do.

And:

HUD: Women just like to be around something dangerous sometime.

And:

HUD: You not lettin’ that little ruckus we had run you off, are you?

THE HOUSEKEEPER: Fast as I can get a bus ticket . . .
