Auntie Boo
BEEP! BEEP! BEEP!
All I can hear is machines beeping all around me. It’s dark and I’m cold. Where the fuck am I?
I’m so tired and the more I fight against this force that’s drawing me to this light, the more it hurts. When I don’t resist, it feels so good. It’s dark, but I can feel another presence. I look down and I see this hand gently grab my wrist. I look back up and I look into the eyes of my mother.
“Ma, I miss you so much!”
She smiles. “Then come with me. It’ll stop hurting.”
I start walking with her because I didn’t want her to leave. “When I walk this way, it don’t hurt. What’s that light over there?”
“Heaven.”
I let go of her hand and stop. “Heaven? Ma, I can’t go yet. Lil Mama is in trouble. My dad needs me. I can’t go.”
She smiled again. “Life is full of pain. Come with me to paradise.”
Reality set in. I need to go back. I started backing away from her. “I love you ma, but I’m not done on earth yet.”
She looked at me and this time, her smile was gone. “If you go back, you’ll burn.”
I chuckled. “Excuse my language, but I got hell to deliver to a few people that deserve it.”
“You may not be able to come back.” She turned away. “Heaven is peaceful; hell is hot! Please come with me!”
I took my time before I spoke. “I’m about to send that nigga to hell that shot me and if I end up there with him, I’mma kill his ass again!” I turned away and began the painful walk back to life. As I got closer to the darkness, I could hear voices.
“What’s happening to her? Why is she shaking? Go get the fucking doctor! Boo, can you hear me? If you can hear me sis, squeeze my hand.”
I knew it was Lil Mama. I just couldn’t do what she was asking me to do. My whole body started hurting.
“Boo, please wake up, sis! I got you!”
I felt a burst of energy that shot my ass through the darkness like a rocket.
“Oh my goodness, get the doctor! Her eyes are open!”
