Detective House
“What do we have here?”
“Well, from what we see, it looks like a robbery gone bad. We got three victims over here, all dead from gunshot wounds to the back…execution style. The cashier took two to the face. The poor cook took four to the back and fell face first on the hot grill. I think we’re going to need dental to identify him.”
“Damn! This is a fucking massacre. I know this is going to put a halt to my operation take down of the Eastside Crazy Crew. Shit! Are there any surveillance cameras?”
“Actually there is. The other officer is in the back there now reviewing them.”
I stepped over the cook and almost threw up. It smelled like burnt shit up in here.
“Officer Dixon, what we got here?”
“I’m almost there. I’m trying to rewind it to the time of the first 911 call. Hold on. Okay, here we go. At 1:35 p.m., four people came in and placed their orders. At 1:41 p.m., this white Range Rover pulled up in the parking lot and the driver exited the vehicle and entered the establishment. Apparently, the driver knew the four individuals that entered several minutes before him.”
“How do you know that?”
“Look at the camera footage from the lobby. The driver picked up one of the females and hugged her.”
“WAIT! Pause the footage.”
“House, what do you see?”
“The briefing we had this morning about operation takedown. Well, those are my perps.”
“No shit!”
“No shit. Play it.”
“Okay, well this is where things get crazy.”
“How so?”
“Well, the Range Rover has another passenger. After about three minutes or so, he exits the Range with what appears to be a gun in his right hand. He runs up to the door and starts firing.”
“On his boy?”
“I know, right. On the lobby footage, you can see bodies dropping and your perps dive for cover. Whomever this girl is to him, he did his best to cover her. Look at this young man jump up and return fire.”
“Damn! These mafuckas decided to have a shootout in broad daylight.”
“Well, the driver jumped up and helped the other guy return fire.”
“So now the driver is shooting at the passenger that he came with?”
“Yup. After about seven seconds, the passenger backs off and makes a run for a black SUV.”
“Aw shit! Did I just see him go down?”
“I think so. Wait let me rewind it. Yup, he was shot on his way to the SUV.”
I had to shake my head for a second. “Do you know who shot him?”
“Wait; let me look at the lobby footage. Damn!”
“What?”
“From the looks of things, his friend shot him.”
“I’mma need some help with this one. Care to assist me?”
Officer Dixon was a bad chick. She was from Detroit, Michigan. I love her swag. She is a tomboy, but I can tell she had a badass body under them clothes. Lawd have Mercy! She has a beautiful face with some very sharp cheekbones. Skin smooth as caramel, with these deep dark eyes.
“Are you flirting with me detective?”
I had to smile. “Yes, but I could really use your help on this one.”
“I’ll be more than glad to help you, but let’s be clear on one thing.”
“What’s that?”
“I like what you like.”
“And that is?”
“Pussy!”
Damn, she shut a nigga down real quick. She is a damn good cop though. I read her jacket. She came from a broken home. Her father, mother, and sister were all murdered after she took down a big drug lord in Detroit some years ago and came to Chicago to start over.
“Well, I see you did your homework on me. I would love to assist you. Just keep your hands to yourself. This is strictly business. I’m not that kinda girl.”
“You got it. I’mma get in touch with my informant. I just need a positive I.D. on these four here.”
“Well, what are we going to do about this? Clearly it’s a case of self-defense on their end.”
“We won’t do shit for now. I should be able to find out who that young man is through my informant.”
“Okay, well let me finish up in here and we can leave.”
