Why So Overstuffed?

Storage units are used to hold stuff we don’t use. Our homes have run out of space to store our excess. But if you’re storing items in an outside storage unit, it means that you aren’t using them. Are you paying $300 or more a year storing things that you don’t use? If so, you need to evaluate why you have more stuff than can fit into your home. Are you unable to tell yourself “no” when you’re out shopping or when a friend asks if you want her stuff? Do you keep everything “just in case” you’ll need it later, even if you haven’t used it in months? Do you move piles from room to room instead of dealing with what is in those piles? Do you say that someday you’ll clean out that garage or the hall closet?

Don’t give yourself more room to fill. Instead, give yourself more space at home. Take a small step. Maybe one drawer that has always bothered you could be your project for this evening. The progress will feel great, and you can cancel that storage unit because you’re well on your way to an uncluttered life.
