The Big Day

Chapter 2

Guided Meditation

There’s something different about your house today. As you walk from room to room, you notice piles of boxes stacked up everywhere. Some of them are all taped up and have writing on the sides. Others are still open and some things are still waiting to be packed into them. Newspaper is scattered everywhere and you can tell that moving day is fast approaching. As you head down the hallway leading to your bedroom, all kinds of memories from your childhood begin to flood your mind. Which memories stand out? Why do you think you remember these so vividly?

As you walk into your room, you notice most of your possessions stacked in boxes and leaning against the wall. How does it make you feel to see everything you own in one place like this? You notice a few more boxes that still need to be packed. What do you want to make sure gets in there? What if you weren’t able to take a few of your things because there wasn’t enough room? What would you leave behind if you absolutely had to? Why do you think you would choose those things rather than something else?

Once you finish packing the last few things from your room into boxes, you start to imagine what your new life is going to look like. What will your new house be like? What about your new room? How do you imagine it? How will you arrange your things? What do you imagine your new life being like? Do you think it will be hard to make new friends or fit in?

As you lean back against the boxes to think some more, someone walks into your room and sits down next to you. What happens next?

Scripture Guides Us

The Bible never mentions anything about Jesus owning a home—or any property for that matter. He seems totally dependent upon others to supply his needs as he travels from town to town sharing the Good News of God. What faith he must have had in his heavenly Father to take care of him!

Take a few minutes to “chew on” the following Scripture verses, allowing God’s Spirit to speak to you.

LUKE 9:57-58

As they were walking along the road, a man said to him, “I will follow you wherever you go.” Jesus replied, “Foxes have holes and birds have nests, but the Son of Man has no place to lay his head.”
