Simple Stamps
In this case, synthetic corks are actually preferable to real cork because they cut “cleaner” and have a better surface for transferring ink. Take your time with the cutting! Just say “NO” to craft-related injuries!
You will need:
* Synthetic corks
* Fine-tip permanent marker
* X-ACTO knife
* Stamp pads in assorted colors
* Cardstock
- Find the end of the cork that was NOT pierced with a corkscrew—that will be your stamp end. Draw the shape you want to carve with the fine-tip marker.
- Carefully and gently, slice into the cork at the line you drew, and only take the blade in about 1⁄8". Then, slice that piece away from the side, as shown in the illustration. (You may want to do a few practice carvings first to get the feel for how the blade cuts the material.) Simply cut away the areas that you don’t want to show when you stamp.
- Test it out by inking and stamping on cardstock to see what the image looks like. Wipe off the ink and make adjustments as necessary until you get the print you want.
OPTIONS!
Make your own stationery with your new stamp set! Buy blank cardstock and envelopes at a craft store, and get stamping. Try printing a border of moons and stars, Xs and Os, or hearts. Or stamp a line of chevrons with a metallic ink pad on black paper—then write your note with a matching metallic paint pen.
