Gift Tags

These sweet tags are a cinch to make, plus you get to play with washi tape! Make them in bulk so you always have a cute tag to turn that bottle of wine into a thoughtful hostess gift, rather than an “I-Just-Grabbed-This-on-the-Way” kind of thing. Of course, they work great for non-wine gifts too.

You will need:

* Assorted printed wine corks

* Coping saw

* Sandpaper

* Assorted washi tape

* Paper luggage tags (available at craft stores)

* E6000 glue

* Alphabet rubber stamps with stamp pad (or fine-tip markers)

* Bakers’ twine

  1. Select the images you want to use from the printed corks and use a coping saw to cut, as desired. I cut coins from printed tops, lengthwise halves, and sections. Gently sand, wipe off dust, and set aside.
  2. Apply washi tape to the top and bottom of the tags, as in the samples. Have fun mixing the different colors, patterns, and widths of tapes. Try overlapping some, centering thinner tape over wider tape, or spacing them out. Leave room in the center for the corks.

  3. Smear a little bit of E6000 glue onto the back of the cork and press in place on the tag. Let dry.
  4. Use the alphabet stamps and ink pad to write out a greeting on the tag. I found it works best to stamp onto the paper rather than onto the washi tape. If you don’t have alphabet stamps, use a fine marker and write the greeting out yourself—no big deal.
  5. Cut 8"–10" length of bakers’ twine and thread through the holes in the tag.
