When we found out our first baby was going to be a boy, I wanted a jungle-themed baby shower. When we found out our second baby was another boy I wanted a little jungle-themed nursery. And ever since my little boys were born their nicknames have been “my little monkeys.” And just like my kids, your little monkeys are guaranteed to love these Monkey Oreo Bonbons! Perfect for a circus party, baby shower, or just a monkey birthday party, you’re guaranteed to wish you had made more!
1 (1-pound) bag light cocoa candy melts
1 batch Basic Oreo Bonbons, completed through Step 3 (see recipe in Chapter 1)
1 cup butterscotch-flavored candy melts
48 butterscotch chips
1. Melt your cocoa candy melts in a candy melting electric pot according to the package instructions, or in the microwave at 30-second increments.
2. Dip the Basic Oreo Bonbons into the melted chocolate using a candy melt dipping scoop or fork and cover the bonbons completely.
3. Place chocolate-covered bonbons on a piece of parchment paper or Silpat. Place in refrigerator until chocolate hardens, about 10 minutes.
4. While the bonbons are chilling, melt butterscotch-flavored candy melts according to the package instructions, or in the microwave at 30-second increments.
5. Use the cake-decorating paintbrushes and butterscotch candy melts to paint the face and circular cheeks of the monkey onto the front center of the bonbon.
6. Use the cake-decorating paintbrushes to apply melted chocolate to the side of two butterscotch chips. Then attach the chips to both sides at the top of the bonbon for the monkey’s ears. Place bonbons back in the refrigerator until chocolate hardens, about 5 minutes.
7. Once the chocolate is hard, use your cake-decorating paintbrushes to paint on the smile with the melted chocolate. Use the bottom end of your cake-decorating paintbrushes to create two dots for eyes and a short line for the nose. Place back in refrigerator until chocolate is completely hardened, approximately 2–3 minutes.
