Love is in the air! These little love bugs are such a sweet treat for the little valentines in your life. The heart sprinkles add such a fun touch for the holiday that is all about hearts! Feel free to omit the hearts for a regular ladybug treat that would be great for the spring and summer seasons!
1 cup red chocolate candy melts
12 Oreo cookies
1 tube black gel icing
Valentine heart sprinkles
1⁄2 cup vanilla candy melts
1. Melt red candy melts in a candy melting electric pot according to package instructions, or in the microwave at 30-second increments.
2. Dip Oreos in melted red candy melts using a candy melt dipping scoop and cover completely. Place Oreo cookies on a piece of parchment paper or a Silpat. Place in refrigerator until chocolate has hardened, approximately 10 minutes.
3. Using your black gel icing, pipe on a circular head that covers the top 1⁄4 of the Oreo cookie, then pipe a thin black triangle down the center of the Oreo cookie to create the classic ladybug look.
4. Using your black gel icing, place multiple dots on either side of the love bug’s “wings” and place a small heart sprinkle on top of each black dot.
5. Repeat Step 1 with vanilla candy melts. Then, to create the love bug’s eyes, add two small white dots on the head of ladybug. Add a smaller dot of black gel icing on top.
6. Repeat with remaining chocolate-covered Oreos, place them on a Silpat or piece of parchment paper, and place in refrigerator until chocolate hardens, approximately 5 minutes. Enjoy!
