* Keeler, while a respected naturalist, was quite likely the strangest of the Elder guests. His best-known book, The Simple Home, was essentially an interior design and landscape architecture manifesto. Late in life, he attempted to formulate a universal religion by founding the First Berkeley Cosmic Society. He is also known for writing the Cremation of Care ceremony, performed annually at the private Bohemian Club assembly, which conspiracy theorists believe is a powerful satanic ritual but is actually ridiculous.
