By eighth grade, noting, preparing for, and completing school assignments should primarily be the responsibility of the student. You can support your teen's efforts by suggesting work strategies that capitalize on his learning strengths, and by working behind the scenes to maintain a home environment conducive to study and learning. This can be accomplished by insisting on nutritious meals and reasonable bedtimes; by creating a quiet, organized work space; by supplying reference materials and stationery supplies; by making yourself available for assistance or advice; and—perhaps most difficult—by readily providing transportation to music lessons, cultural events, study group meetings, and the library. Here are some strategies that will make homework and learning more appealing to your eighth-grade learner.
