BE WISE AND WALK IN LIBERTY
Take fast hold of instruction; let her not go: keep her; for she is thy life. Enter not into the path of the wicked, and go not in the way of evil men. Avoid it, pass not by it, turn from it, and pass away. For they sleep not, except they have done mischief; and their sleep is taken away, unless they cause some to fall. For they eat the bread of wickedness, and drink the wine of violence. But the path of the just is as the shining light, that shineth more and more unto the perfect day. The way of the wicked is as darkness: they know not at what they stumble .
P ROVERBS 4:13–19 KJV
The book of Proverbs tells us to be wise and learn from what we receive.
God’s Word is a book of instruction. I encourage you to read the entire book of Proverbs, for Proverbs is synonymous to wisdom. Once you read it, you will be wiser. What is wisdom? It is defined as “the quality or state of being wise, knowledge of what is true or right coupled with the just judgments to action, discernment, or insight.” How many times have we listened to sermons Sunday after Sunday but did not apply them to our lives? We must learn to receive the word so that when the trials (temptations) arrive, we will refer back to the word (instruction) in order to defeat the enemy and thus walk in victory. The Bible refers to instruction as her . Men, when you refer to the Word of God, think of it as a woman, your woman; think of how precious she is to you. You cherish her, and you guard her. You keep her close because she is the bone of your bones and flesh of your flesh (Genesis 2:23). Without flesh and bones, you would not be able to survive, for she is your life. The Word of God is just as precious as your woman. Therefore, to live wisely means to detest evil and live righteously.
The original title of this book was Power in the Pussy . My closest friends in Christ all had the same reaction when I shared the title: mouths dropped open in silence. They told me, “Do not use the word pussy in your title.” I compromised and changed the title to Power in the P so as not to offend anyone. I did not change the title to make the reader comfortable. I choose to not offend and yet be led by the Spirit of God to get this message across, since I wrote this book according to the inspiration of the Holy Spirit. Why can’t I say “pussy”? It clearly sends the message the Lord wants me to convey. There is nothing beautiful about the word pussy . Its connotation indicates something immoral. Some have commonly referred to this word when they are on the prowl. Players have no rules or sense of dignity. They have one thing on their mind: to get women in their bed at whatever the cost. They will say whatever needs to be said, do whatever needs to be done to get you between the sheets. It is one thing to be a nonbeliever and lay with one woman after the other, but to profess to be a man of God, a believer, and lay with a woman who is not your wife—or worse, commit adultery—is an abomination unto God. Woe unto you, you who work iniquity. He knows you not (Matthew 7:21– 23 KJV ).
Wikipedia gives the definition of pussy as follows:
The word pussy is a noun, an adjective, and in rare uses, a verb in the English language. It has several meanings, including use as slang, euphemism, and as vulgarity. Because of its multiple senses including both innocent and vulgar connotations, it is often the subject of double entendre. The etymology of the word is not entirely clear. Several different senses of the word have different histories or origins. The common meanings of the noun include “cat, coward, or weakling,” and “the human vulva or vagina,” or as a synecdoche, “sexual intercourse with a woman.” As a homograph, pussy also has the meaning “containing pus”; with the meaning, the word is pronounced /PASI/, while the other forms are all pronounced /PUSI/. Another adjective is the rare or obsolete Northern English dialect form pursy meaning “fat or short-winded.” Meanings of the verb relate to the common senses, including “to act like a cat,” to act like a coward,” “to have sex with a woman.” 1
Let us examine the characteristics of the cat: Cats are curious. They are constantly on the prowl. When they are satisfied, they groom themselves and purr as a sign of contentment. Like the cat, lust seeks gratification. It is constantly on the prowl seeking its prey. It brings about a burning desire that seeks satisfaction. Brothers, stop stalking women and start seeking your wife! For it is written, “Whoso findeth a wife findeth a good thing, and obtaineth favour of the Lord” (Proverbs 18:22 KJV ) . The World English Bible says, “He that findeth a wife findeth a good thing.” If finding a good thing grants you good favor, what does seeking a woman for sex grant you? What shall separate you from the love of God? “For I am persuaded, that neither death, nor life, nor angels, nor principalities, nor powers, nor things present, nor things to come, Nor height, nor depth, nor any other creature, shall be able to separate us from the love of God, which is in Christ Jesus our Lord” (Romans 8:39 KJV ). Nothing and certainly no one is worth you missing heaven.
I do not apologize to those of you who find my use of the word pussy offensive. My intent is to expose the devices of the enemy and, through God’s Word, set the captive free.
Beloved,
There is therefore now no condemnation to them which are in Christ Jesus, who walk not after the flesh, but after the Spirit. For the law of the Spirit of life in Christ Jesus hath made me free from the law of sin and death. For what the law could not do, in that it was weak through the flesh, God sending his own Son in the likeness of sinful flesh, and for sin, condemned sin in the flesh: That the righteousness of the law might be fulfilled in us, who walk not after the flesh, but after the Spirit…. For to be carnally minded is death; but to be spiritually minded is life and peace. Because the carnal mind is enmity against God: for it is not subject to the law of God, neither indeed can be. So then they that are in the flesh cannot please God .
(Romans 8:1–8 KJV )
What is Paul telling us? In order to walk in victory, freed from sin, we must honor the Word of God. There is no good thing that dwells in the flesh. Following the flesh will lead to one thing, death. This death can be natural or spiritual. Jesus died for our sins so that we might be free. Walk in liberty.
One winter, I decided to visit my aunt who lives in Chicago. My aunt Charlene has two cats that she considers her babies. During my visit, I observed in one moment one of the cats was sitting in the room with us, and in an instant it was gone. I did not hear it coming and did not see it leave. Cats are cunning. They hide in the most unusual places, and they sometimes launch sneak attacks. They are unpredictable creatures. Beware of men or women with catlike behavior.
How many of you have seen the movie Catwoman starring Ms. Halle Berry? In the movie, Catwoman has a thing for a handsome police officer, Lou Diamond Phillip. Her character is a shy, homely working girl during the day, but she turns into this bold, dangerous cat creature at night. Back in the day, for the old-school crew, we used to dance to a song titled “Freaks Come Out at Night.” In one particular scene in the movie, the costar is called to a jewelry store where Catwoman is dealing with bank robbers. She is confronted by the police officer. She wrestles with him down to the floor and makes a seductive move. She definitely gets his attention. Who has gotten your attention? Does a flirtatious spirit intrigue you? The bait is being set in the trap. Run away before it’s too late.
Why be appalled or so holier-than-thou when I refer to it as pussy? If we call it cooty, kitty cat, putang, coochy, or any other slang, you all know what I am referring to. This particular part of a woman’s anatomy has been known to tear apart families, destroy marriages, turn the honest into notorious liars, get individuals to creep around like thieves in the night, and change a relationship based on trust into one of distrust and disbelief.
For years I have ministered to women who were involved with married men. The first thing they say in their defense as to why they stay in the situation is because they have been convinced that the man who they are involved with is not happy at home. Here comes the punch line: “He is going to leave his wife.” If you believe that, contact me and I will talk to you about some land I own on the moon—I can sell it to you at an unbelievable price. I tell them: What if he does leave his wife and marries you? Do you truly believe he will be true to you? He has shown you who he truly is. What makes you think he will change when and if he marries you? If thinking this makes you feel better, then go ahead and believe it! Watch how quickly he changes when you, his mistress, starts making demands and acting like a wife. You know he is not capable of being faithful in a relationship because he was creeping around with you! You were there when he was lying to his wife and telling her he was working late or that something else had come up. Why would you want to be with a liar? Wake up, woman! That man is not going to leave his family. You are providing him just what lust dictates to him. Lust says, “You need to hit that so I can be satisfied.” Face it; you are the 20 percent Tyler Perry discusses in the play and movie Why Did I Get Married? For you see, a man’s or woman’s 80 percent takes care of the children, in most cases handles the finances, cooks, cleans, counsels, contributes to the household, is seen out in the public light, attends family events, and so forth. She is the one with the power . All you provide is a place for that man to lie. You go to places where he won’t be recognized. So you devise a plan. You start calling his home so his wife will find out about you, hoping she will put him out. Then you can have your man so that you can become Mrs. 20 Percent. How smart are you? Girl, what’s wrong with you? (And brothers, wake up! You need help right now. Hurry, before it is too late.) Furthermore, what has his wife done to you to make you cause her so much hurt and grief? You will never be happy on someone else’s misery. What about their children who also suffer because of your presence in their parents’ relationship? The blood of that marriage and family is on your hands.
