Sexual activity is a major topic of thought and discussion in college. Maybe your parents bring it up during a phone call, thinking they are being oh-so-casual, or a roommate asks for your advice, or you start dating someone new and it inevitably comes up. Regardless, sexual activity is entirely your choice. You can decide to abstain entirely, start being sexually active for the first time, or continue whatever feels right for you.
No matter what you choose, the most important thing to remember is to always practice safety in your decisions. This includes everything from ensuring consent on both sides, to taking appropriate measures to protect your body from sexually transmitted diseases and unwanted pregnancy. Ideally, you should plan a visit to your campus health center or a local clinic to get tested for any STDs (along with your partner!) at least twice a year. In addition, familiarize yourself with campus policies around sexual behavior and assault so you know your rights. You may also want to talk with your friends or roommates about sex so you can look out for each other and support safe choices.
